New Comic Book Day and Last Minute Bay Area Shopping

With Christmas stealing away our weekly holiday of New Comic Book Day the few comics that are being released this week hit the shelves this morning. All of the Bay Area comic book stores will have their doors wpanic-xmaside open for last minute holiday shoppers. If you’re seeking out last minute gifts and end up at a store that doesn’t have what you need please consult our handy Bay Area Comic Store Directory. We have more than a dozen stores within a 15-mile radius of West Oakland, so chances are, with some committed traveling or phone calling, you’ll find what you need on this final day of gift buying.

As for the comics coming out today you’ll see mostly number ones on the shelves including Origin II #1 (Kieron Gillen/Adam Kubert), The Saviors #1 (James Robinson/J. Bone), Robotech Voltron #1 (Tommy Yune/Elmer Damaso), and Deceivers #1 (Steven Grant/Jose Holder/Stephane Roux). If you haven’t been reading Mark Millar’s Jupiter’s Legacy, or if you simply want to foist the book on a friend as a gift, Image has bundled the first three issues into one Giant-Sized issue at the more than reasonable price of $3.99.

Dynamite has the most regular series issues on the shelves today. Regular readers of Battlestar Galactica, Black Bat, Lords of Mars, The Green Hornet, Miss Fury, Owl, Red Sonja, and Vampirella can all pick up their monthly fix.

Christmas Day is also Doctor Who Christmas Special Day, but if you can’t wait until tomorrow for your Whovian fix IDW is dropping a special issue. The story focuses on the Doctor crossing over into our Universe and meeting a 10-year-old girl who is a huge fan of the original series.

Finally, we leave you with the Christmas tradition of watching Lobo’s Paramilitary Christmas Special.
